The Annaul Conferences on Roma Culture are a common space where dialogue between, and the acknowledgement of, several cultures takes place. It is an open meeting point for reflection upon different issues concerning the situation of the Roma people, their social integration, the Roma and non-Roma role in several key domains of development, etc.
The aim of these conferences is to achieve a good exchange of ideas and experiences that might help to positively promote the Roma culture, and at the same time to create new forms of social intervention in which particular aspects of our culture are considered. One of the other goals is to promote knowledge about Roma culture in order to deconstruct the myths and the negative perceptions commonly held about Roma people.
The first conference took place in 1982. One of its main characteristics was the diversity of those who attended and the strong turnout of Roma people, which allowed measurement the ability of such conferences to gather people.
